Abattant is a term used to describe a drop down flap used as a desk with concealed drawers and shelves. It is inlaid wood and hand painted black and gold. It has a rose marble top. This secretary is French Empire style from the early 1900s. It is tall and shallow to fit against the wall and goes back to a time of writing on parchment paper. there are slight minor scratches consistent with age. It’s missing skeleton keys for the drawers and also one small decorative piece of trim. It is from around 1910.
